How Thermage FLX works
Thermage FLX uses monopolar radiofrequency to deliver heat into the dermis and the layer beneath it, where collagen is concentrated. The heat draws water molecules away from the collagen fibres so existing collagen contracts. Over the following 2–3 months the body builds and reorganises new collagen, so changes become clearer gradually, up to around month 6.

What is new in Thermage FLX
- Total Tip 4.0 A 4.0 cm² treatment surface, larger than the 3.0 tip of the earlier Thermage CPT. The manufacturer states treatment time is about 25% shorter.
- AccuREP™ With every pulse, the system measures the skin’s resistance at that spot and adjusts its energy automatically, so energy is delivered evenly across the area.
- Cooling spray and vibration The tip sprays a burst of cooling onto the skin surface and vibrates gently to make the treatment more comfortable.

Both packages use the Total Tip 4.0 cm², the same purple tip; they differ only in the number of shots.

On the day
- Consultation and assessment The physician examines your skin, listens to your concerns and plans the areas and directions to treat.
- Skin preparation Make-up is removed, the skin is cleansed and before photos are taken.
- Treatment The physician checks how hot it feels as the treatment goes on and adjusts the level to suit you. A 900-shot face and neck treatment typically takes about 45–60 minutes, not including preparation.
- Afterwards Skin may look pink and feel warm for a while. You can wear make-up and carry on with your day; use sunscreen daily.
- Follow-up At around 2, 4 and 6–8 months, to review the changes with the physician.
Frequently asked questions
Does Thermage FLX hurt?
Most people feel brief pulses of heat as the tip delivers energy, followed by a cooling spray. The heat level is adjusted based on what you tell the physician during treatment. If you are worried about discomfort, mention it at your consultation.
When will I see a change?
New collagen takes time to form, so changes appear gradually over roughly 2–6 months. How much changes and how long it lasts depend on your skin and age; physicians often suggest repeating the treatment once a year.
Is there downtime?
Most people return to work and normal activities straight after. Skin may be red for about 1–2 hours, and there may be some swelling that usually settles within about 5 days.
