What is EXION Program?
EXION by BTL Aesthetics combines radiofrequency and targeted ultrasound in a single platform, with AI controlling how energy is delivered in every pulse.
Rather than adding substances to the skin, EXION works by prompting the skin to produce more of its own hyaluronic acid, collagen and elastin. DR. SUPRANEE CLINIC offers three EXION procedures, covering skin dryness and dullness through to enlarged pores, acne scarring, fine lines and laxity.
Three EXION Procedures Available at the Clinic
1. EXION Face — Hydration From Within, Without Needles
The EXION Face applicator delivers two energies at the same time. Monopolar radiofrequency heats the dermis evenly to 40-42°C, while targeted ultrasound focuses on the reticular dermis, the deep dermal layer where fibroblasts are most active.
This combination of thermal and mechanical stimulation prompts fibroblasts to increase their own hyaluronic acid production, alongside collagenesis and elastogenesis. It is a different approach from topical products or injectables, which introduce hyaluronic acid from the outside.
A thermal sensor and Dynamic Impedance technology monitor skin temperature and impedance changes throughout the session, so energy stays matched to how each patient's skin is responding.
Best suited to: dehydrated or dull skin, uneven texture, fine lines, the delicate under-eye area, nasolabial folds, neck, décolletage and the back of the hands.
2. EXION Fractional RF — Microneedling RF for Acne Scars and Wrinkles
Fine 250-micron needles deliver radiofrequency energy into the skin at depths of 0.5-2.5 mm on the face, producing fractional heating of up to approximately 75°C. Aged collagen and elastin fibres contract, and the body begins a repair process that remodels the tissue.
Three features separate EXION Fractional RF from conventional microneedling RF devices:
- Insulated needles release energy only from the needle tip rather than along the shaft, which widens the range of skin types that can be treated, including darker skin tones.
- AI-controlled energy delivery automatically adjusts pulse duration, power and delivery speed, allowing a single-pass procedure instead of the repeated passes older devices require. Treatment time is shorter as a result.
- Reduced discomfort, because the working depth on facial treatments sits above the layer where mechanical pain receptors are concentrated.
In a study of 34 participants receiving three treatments 7-14 days apart, 87% showed improvement in acne scarring and skin texture at the three-month follow-up, with no post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation observed in darker-skinned subjects treated with insulated needles. A separate study reported a comfort rating of 82% and a satisfaction rating of 98%. Individual results will vary.
Best suited to: acne scars, other scarring, wrinkles, enlarged pores, rough texture and early skin laxity.
3. EXION Clear RF — Smart Microablation for Tone and Texture
Clear RF uses a 64-tip applicator to remove fractions of the outer skin layer at depths of roughly 30-200 microns, staying within the epidermis. The depth is adjustable to suit the skin concern being addressed.
Removing damaged surface skin in a fractional pattern triggers the skin's natural renewal process, replacing it with a fresh layer. The result is smoother texture and more even tone.
Clear RF shares the same applicator as Fractional RF but runs a different set of parameters, so the two can be planned together — Fractional RF working at depth, Clear RF refining the surface.
Best suited to: sun damage, brown spots, red spots, uneven skin tone and rough skin texture.
Who EXION Is For

Sessions and Treatment Time
- EXION Face — approximately 10-30 minutes per session depending on the area; 4 sessions recommended, 7-14 days apart
- EXION Fractional RF — approximately 10-30 minutes per session; 3-6 sessions recommended (typically 4), 1-6 weeks apart
- EXION Clear RF — approximately 10-30 minutes per session; 2-5 sessions recommended, 1-6 weeks apart
Intervals depend on how the skin recovers, and the skin must be fully healed before the next session. Your doctor will determine the number of sessions appropriate for you.
Clinical Evidence
EXION Face is supported by both human and animal studies:
- Human study — 41 subjects aged 26-77 received four treatments 7-14 days apart, assessed by 3D skin analysis and hydration measurement. The group treated with radiofrequency plus targeted ultrasound reported a 93% satisfaction rate at the three-month follow-up.
- Human histology — biopsy analysis showed a significant increase in hyaluronic acid levels in the group treated with radiofrequency plus targeted ultrasound.
- Porcine animal studies — reported increases of 224% in hyaluronic acid, 47% in collagen and 50% in elastin. These figures come from animal research and are not human clinical results.

- Have an infection, active inflammation or an unhealed wound in the treatment area

- Have sunburn or have used self-tanning products within the past 2 weeks
- Have had botulinum toxin, filler or fat injections in the treatment area within the past 3 months
- Have a history of cancer or an autoimmune condition
- Have a bleeding disorder or take anticoagulant medication
