Ultherapy Prime Program

What is Ulthera Prime?

Every patient and every treatment is different. Ulthera Prime features vivid real-time imaging technology that allows physicians to see beneath the patient’s skin surface to assess their individual anatomical needs in real time and personalize each treatment, promoting safe and effective treatment.

This upgraded platform improves the original Ultherapy technology (Ultherapy Legacy) by providing treatments up to 20% faster, powerful processing performance with greater precision and enhanced comfort. It offers vivid real-time visualization to see where the treatment is most beneficial. Ultherapy Prime now features a 35% larger screen, which measures 19 inches. It also includes a 10-inch ultrasound field that is twice the size of the previous model. Additionally, the improved platform reduces visual noise, providing stable and clear imaging at depths of up to 8 mm. These enhancements help physicians better identify precise targets while avoiding non-target structures, such as bones and blood vessels.

Real-time visualization benefit:

Evaluate and address each patient’s unique anatomical needs.

  • Choose the proper transducer for the targeted depth.
  • Deliver precise and consistent energy to reach the collagen-rich tissue layers.
  • Ensure proper coupling of the transducer to the skin.
  • Avoid energy delivery into nontarget tissues like bones and vessels.
  • Minimize patient discomfort with visualized tissue targeting.
  • Confirm appropriate depth of treatment, such as to avoid bone.

Benefits of Ultherapy Prime:

  • Nonsurgical lifts, tones, and tightens the skin.
  • Stimulates the production of the body’s own collagen.
  • No downtime, and results can be seen with just one treatment.
  • Treats “below” the skin without surgery (non-invasive).
  • Provide natural-looking, noticeable results.
  • Clinically proven efficacy and safety profile.
  • Can be used as a nonsurgical or postsurgical option.

Which area can be treated with Ulthera Prime?

Ulthera Prime can treat the following areas:

  • Face: Upper face, lower face, jawline, nasolabial folds, periorbital wrinkles (crow's feet), infraorbital laxity, and enlarged facial pores.
  • Neck: Lax submental and neck areas, horizontal neck lines, and neck rejuvenation.
  • Décolleté: Lines and wrinkles on the chest area.

How can Ulthera Prime improve skin laxity?

Due to its mechanical properties, ultrasound is the only energy source that can be microfocused beneath the skin’s surface at any depth, without affecting the intervening tissue.

Ultherapy Prime precisely heats tissue at three depths (1.5, 3.0, and 4.5 mm) to target both the deep dermis and fibrous layers of the skin, which are rich in collagen, including fascia (upper face), SMAS/fibrous (mid-face), and platysmal fascia (lower face and neck).

When sound waves are microfocused to a predetermined depth, they create a well-defined thermal coagulation point (TCP), while leaving the surrounding tissue unaffected.

Ulthera Prime improves skin laxity through the following mechanisms:

  • Thermal Coagulation Points (TCPs): MFU-V delivers focused ultrasound energy to specific depths in the skin, creating localized thermal coagulation points. These points denature collagen and elastin fibers, initiating the body's natural healing process.
  • Collagen and Elastin Regeneration: The denaturation of collagen triggers a biological response that recruits fibroblasts, leading to the production of new collagen and elastin fibers. Over time, immature collagen is replaced with mature collagen, improving skin structure and firmness.
  • Extracellular Matrix (ECM) Remodeling: MFU-V stimulates ECM remodeling, reorganizing collagen and elastin fibers into a more youthful state. This enhances skin elasticity and firmness, reducing laxity.
  • Targeting Deeper Tissue Planes: MFU-V can bypass superficial layers to target deeper tissue planes, such as the dermis, deep dermis, and superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). This precise targeting optimizes lifting and tightening effects.
  • Angiogenesis: MFU-V promotes angiogenesis (formation of new blood vessels), improving oxygenation and nutrient delivery to the skin, which supports tissue regeneration and enhances skin quality.

Clinical studies have demonstrated significant improvements in skin firmness, elasticity, and overall appearance following MFU-V treatment, making it a practical option for addressing skin laxity.

Wound healing Process in Ulthera Prime treatment:

3 Phases of wound healing:

  • Phase 1: Temporary inflammation associated with the healing process

During the initial phase, macrophages engulf and digest injured tissue and release cytokines, which attract fibroblasts.

  • Phase 2: Proliferation

In the proliferation phase, fibroblasts synthesize the newly created type III collagen alongside other mediators important to rebuilding the collagen matrix.

  • Phase 3: Maturation and remodeling

In the maturation and remodeling phase, type III collagen is replaced by type I collagen, forming tight cross-links with itself and other proteins, leading to a long-term, sustained lifting and tightening results.

Is the result of Ulthera Prime permanent?

Based on scientific evidence, the results of Ulthera Prime are not permanent but rather long-lasting. Ulthera treatment stimulates your body's natural collagen production process. Typically, results become most noticeable around 3-6 months after treatment and can last approximately 1-2 years.

While new collagen is produced, the natural aging process continues. Individual factors such as age, genetics, skincare routine, and environmental exposure all influence how long results will last for each person.

Many patients opt for maintenance treatments every 1-2 years to maintain their results. Consistent skincare, sun protection, and healthy lifestyle habits can help extend the longevity of your Ulthera results.

Contraindications for Ulthera Prime:

Ulthera Prime is contraindicated for use in patients with:

  • Open wounds or lesions in the treatment area
  • Severe or cystic acne in the treatment area
  • Active implants (e.g., pacemakers or defibrillators), or metallic implants in the treatment area

Precautions for Ulthera Prime:

The Ulthera Prime has not been evaluated for use over various materials. Therefore, treatment is not recommended directly over those areas with any of the following:

  • Mechanical implants
  • Dermal fillers
  • Breast implants
  • Keloid
  • The following areas should be avoided during treatment:
  • Thyroid gland, thyroid cartilage and trachea
  • Major vessels and nerves
  • Breast tissue or breast implants
  • Eyes, eyelids, and within the orbital rim

Ulthera Prime has not been evaluated for use in the following patient populations:

  • Pregnant or breastfeeding women
  • Children
  • Those with the following disease states
  • A hemorrhagic disorder or hemostatic dysfunction
  • An active systemic or local skin disease that may alter wound healing
  • Herpes Simplex
  • Autoimmune Disease
  • Diabetes
  • Epilepsy
  • Bell’s Palsy

Potential Side Effects of Ulthera Prime:

Side effects are mild and transient in nature. These were limited to:

  • Erythema (redness): The treated area may exhibit erythema immediately following treatment. This typically resolves within a few hours of treatment.
  • Edema (swelling): The treated area may exhibit mild edema following treatment. This typically resolves within 3 to 72 hours of treatment.
  • Welting: The treated area may exhibit a localized area of linear visible edema following treatment. This typically resolves within a week.
  • Pain: Momentary discomfort may be experienced during the procedure while energy is being deposited. Post procedure discomfort typically resolves within 2 hours and 2 days.
  • Tenderness to the touch is also possible and typically resolves within 2 days to 2 weeks of treatment.
  • Bruising: Mild bruising, which is caused by damage to soft tissue blood vessels, may occur occasionally and typically resolves within 2 days to 2 weeks of treatment.
  • Nerve Effects:
  • Transient local muscle weakness may result after treatment due to inflammation of a motor nerve. This typically resolves in 2 to 6 weeks of treatment.
  • Transient numbness may result after treatment due to inflammation of a sensory nerve. This typically resolves in 2 to 6 weeks of treatment.
